What do we aim to accomplish?

At House Meow we aim to minimize shelter intake and play a role in preventing homeless cats/kittens, helping to stabilize the community cat population.

Every year local municipalities shelters and grassroots rescue organizations overflow with abandoned, surrendered, lost, and discarded cats. Once capacity is reached cats are turned away, often dumped outside to perpetuate the breeding cycle, straining local resources.

We want to reduce municipalities use of euthanasia as a means of capacity control, reduce the number of stray and unwanted pets entering the city’s animal control shelter, prevent the birth of unwanted litters born to owned pets, and enable communities to humanely manage feral and stray cat colonies more effectively and affordably, and in the process, curb the number of stray litters born which are vulnerable to the elements, susceptible to disease and injury, and potential victims of cruelty.

What is your adoption program?

Once our bottle babies are fully weaned they graduate to the kitten room where we nurture them, instilling trust and social skills; they learn how to play, climb, and explore, designed specifically to engage and entertain pre-adoption age kittens. Once our kittens are healthy and at least 8 weeks of age, they are available for our foster-to-adopt program. Our cats are (age-appropriate) vaccinated, microchipped, and sterilized before adoption. Since our foster parents have first-hand knowledge of each cat’s personality, they help to ensure a perfect match for your home.

What is TNR/ SNR?

Trap/shelter-neuter-return, or “TNR/SNR,” is the most humane and effective method for reducing population numbers. 

It is a community-wide initiative to help prevent and curb the overpopulation of stray, feral, and orphaned community cats.

We collaborate with other Community organizations to provide funding and resources for Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR), Shelter, Neuter, Return, (SNR), Return to Field (RTF), Veterinarian care, disaster emergency rescue, and relief.

House Meow provides financial assistance to those who exhibit a need and are experiencing financial hardship on a case-by-case basis to ensure proper sterilization for all cats, owned and unowned.

What is your Shelter Diversion program?

We have a small but dedicated foster program. Through our shelter diversion program, House Meow provides a safe housing option, a haven for cats and kittens, community/stray cats, and feral who exhibit the desire and capacity to be socialized. This program reduces the number of municipal shelter intakes and keeps cats out of cages and off the streets.

We provide all age-appropriate vaccinations, any noted/required medical care upon examination, FIV/FeLV combo testing, Internal/External parasite control, dewormers, sterilization, and microchipping before rehoming.

We have cultivated close and meaningful relationships with our veterinary partners and clinics which provide for the health and well-being of our foster kittens. Community collaboration is essential for the success of our mission, and the end goal; reduce the number of homeless animals Through this dedicated network of relationships with community partners, and Prepare them for successful adoption.
